Anamosa chipping in for the team
By Daryl Schepanski - Sports Editor

TIPTON — It’s been a challenge so far this spring for Anamosa girls track coach Phil Kauder finding a consistent line-up as his team has not only battled through injuries, but also juggled bizarre weather patterns that has kept his team from getting consistent time on the track.
The Raider girls, with a very limited roster, made their way to Tipton Tuesday, April 15, and while the girls went scoreless at the power-packed meet, the evening wasn’t without noteworthy performances from the Anamosa team.
“This was a very good effort against some tough competition,” said Kauder as his team placed 13th overall in the 13-team meet won by Bettendorf who scored 107 points overall and edged Benton Community (106 points) by a single point for the girls’ team title. “We had 10 girls compete tonight, and even though the girls did not feel like it, they did make some progress. They fought through leg cramps and other muscle soreness, but they competed in five relays and five open events out of the 19 total events there are. Not too bad for with the limited numbers we have right now.”
While only 10 girls took to the track in Tipton, the Raiders were still able to compete in 10 different events.
Anamosa took part in the shot put, discus, 100 and 200 meter dash events as well as the 800 meter run while also taking to the track in the sprint medley, 4x200, distance medley, 4x100 and 4x400 events.
Helena McNamara, Heidi Wheeler, Jackie Russ, Trisha Roling, Kellie Vaughn, Katelyn Jamison, Chelsea May, Ashley Frasher, Christy Coons and Sarah Hermanstorfer all made appearances at the meet representing the Raider girls’ track team.
Anamosa ran at the Maquoketa Valley Invitational in Delhi Monday, April 14, scoring 18 points overall finishing 10th in the 10-team meet.
Cammy Dole led the Raider individual effort placing third in the 1500 meter run after crossing the finish line with a time of 5:35.05.
Anamosa’s distance medley team of Jamison, Coons, Vaughn and Dole turned in the top place-winning effort finishing second with a time of 4:43.03
The Raiders also placed in three other relays as well as the 4x200 team was sixth as Jamison, Russ, May and Coons combined to post a time of 2:00.21.
The 4x400 team was eighth overall as May, Vaughn, Dole and Coons were clocked with a time of 4:52.41.
Dole, Jamison, Coons and May ran the sprint medley to a 2:07.75 time which was good enough for eighth at the meet.
Vaughn scored sixth-place points in the 800 meter run after her 2:44.35 clocking.

Western Dubuque won the Maquoketa Valley team title scoring 109 points and edged runner-up Dubuque Wahlert by a mere half of a point for the win.
Anamosa made the short trip to Monticello Thursday, April 17, and before thunderstorms and rain wiped out the meet, the Raider girls scored 31 points placing in four events.
Vaughn crossed the finish line with a time of 12:20.70 in the 3000 meter run, good enough for second overall while the distance medley team of May, Coons, Jamison and Vaughn were third after their 4:55.58 effort.
McNamara unleashed a 31’ 1 1/2” toss in the shot put which was third in the event while Wheeler scored fourth-place points for the Raider girls throwing the discus 83’ 3”. Wheeler also added a 28’ 6” effort in the shot put and was sixth in the event.
North Linn won the rain-shortened event scoring a total of 52 points.

Anamosa golf girls win at Williamsburg
By Daryl Schepanski - Sports Editor

WILLIAMSBURG— Turning in a dominating effort at a tournament that troubled them just a year ago, the Anamosa girls golf team made their Williamsburg Raider Invitational their own personal Anamosa Raider golf showcase Wednesday, April 16.
“We placed extremely well for the conditions,” said Raider girls golf coach Andrew Buck as his team dominated the four-team, 18-hole tournament at the Stone Creek Golf Course in Williamsburg. “I am really proud of the entire team. The girls placed either first or second in their respective playing ranks in the entire tournament.”
Anamosa cruised to a 10-stroke team victory over Muscatine shooting a solid 378 team score with Ryann Pratt leading Raider individuals firing a sensational 89 (45-44).
“Ryann did an awesome job getting around the course,” said Buck as Pratt’s round was not only Anamosa’s top score, but was the best score shot by any girls at the entire tournament. “Our No. 1 and 2 golfers didn’t play all that great, and I really believe we can shoot 10 strokes lower as a team, but a 378 in 35 mile-per-hour winds is a fantastic score for our first 18-hole tournament of the year.”
Anne Daily, like Pratt, also claimed a group medalist honor firing a round of 92 (47-45) which was third overall at the tournament while Paige Goetz (51-49) and Jordan Bickford (48-52) each added rounds of 100 each to turn in the final two counting scores for the Anamosa team.
Both Goetz and Bickford claimed runner-up medalist group scores.
Lauren Herren carded a 102 (51-51) and was group medalist while Erin Ridgeway also secured a group medalist honor after her round of 105 (49-56).
“Anne Daily had a very nice day too and I was also very impressed with Lauren Herren,” said Buck. “She shot her lowest 18-hole score ever and played really well in the No. 6 position for us.”

Sensational start

Overall, all six Raider girls who took to the course claimed medalist honors with all four Anamosa counting scores placing in the tournament top-10 overall.
Muscatine was second overall firing a 388 team score while the host Raiders (437) and Clear Creek-Amana (445) rounded out the scoring at the windy and challenging tournament.
The Raider girls hosted Center Point-Urbana in a WaMaC Conference dual meet Monday, April 14, and with a dominating effort, rolled all over the Pointers taking a whopping 186-250 final.
“Considering we haven’t played much in the last week, we sure played well as a team against CP-U,” said Buck. “ “If we can continue to shave a few strokes off each round like we have been doing, there is no telling how good we could be in a month or so.”
Goetz carded a meet medalist score of 43 for the Raider girls while Bickford claimed the runner-up medalist honor after she made her way through the Fawn Creek course with a card of 45.
“Paige continued her consistent, strong play by taking medalist honors,” said Buck. “Jordan stepped it up a notch as well and was right behind Paige with her round of 45.”
Pratt added a 48 for the hosts while Daily turned in the final counting score with a solid 50.
“A few of the girls had one or two holes that gave them some trouble,” said Buck. “Had that not happened, we could have had six excellent scores. Putting still continues to be our problem, and we will focus our next practices over the next few days on that.”
Ridgeway tallied a round of 52 while Herren carded a 58 for the Anamosa varsity team.
The Raider JV girls also rolled to an impressive victory over Center Point-Urbana in a 220-292 final.
Kayla Zumbach shot her way to the top of the JV board firing a medalist score of 50 while Morgan Tjaden came through with a 54, which secured runner-up medalist JV honors.
“Kayla shot a 50 on only her third high school meet,” said Buck. “As long as Kayla remains confident in herself, she can do some remarkable things on the golf course in the next few years. Morgan had a great round as well.”
DeeDee Rowley fired a 56 for the Anamosa team while Tessa Reynolds added a 60. Katie Wehling made her way through the Fawn Creek course with a 71 for the hosts in their 72-stroke rout of the Pointers.
