Anamosa Outlaws close season hosting EISBL tournament

The Outlaws had their 2007 season ended after being handed a 7-6 setback at the hands of the Cedar Rapids club. Anamosa scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead but saw the Red Sox answer scoring five of the game’s final six runs to take the one-run finale in the seven inning contest.
The Outlaws opened the tournament Friday, August 24, hosting the Iowa City Brewers at the Anamosa High School baseball diamond and rolled to an impressive 11-4 victory. Todd Stoffel drilled a big three-run homer to help propel the hosts to the win in the single elimination EISBL tourney opener. Anamosa’s Kevin Corkery picked up the pitching win as the Outlaws used a huge six-run sixth inning to pull away for good.

Frasher claims 11th Fawn Creek club title

ANAMOSA — One of the most dominant performers in the history of Anamosa Fawn Creek women’s golf was back at work Saturday, August 25, as the course hosted their annual club tournament with a very familiar name winning the event.
Patty Frasher, who has won the Fawn Creek women’s club tournament championship a whopping 10 times, added her 11th title Saturday taking the honor by a single stroke over two-time Eastern Iowa individual champion Kim Kieckhaefer.
Frasher fired a blistering 77 on the beautiful Fawn Creek course opening with a 38 then following that with another solid 39.
Kieckhaefer was a stroke behind after the first nine holes at the 18-hole meet firing a 39. While Kieckhaefer made charges several times at Frasher, she could not quite overcome the early deficit firing another 39 over the final nine holes closing the day with a round of 78 overall.
Frasher and Kieckhaefer were the class of the tournament leading the championship flight field by an amazing 10 and 11 strokes, respectively.
Karen Stoll fired an 88 (47-41) to take third in the championship flight while Deb Byers (49-43) and Kris Parmenter (49-43) tied for fourth with identical rounds of 92.
Mary Comried added a 95 (49-46) to round out the championship flight scoring.
LaDonna Ricklefs scored a 95 (52-43) to win the first flight while Natasha Miller (54-44) and Kim Zimmerman (54-44) tied for second with rounds of 98 each. Deb Plaster fired a 99 (55-44) with Deb Pingle rounding out the top-five in the flight with a card of 102 (52-50).
Karla Frasher (59-49) took top honors in the second flight at the Fawn Creek Club tournament edging Kim Eilers (54-54) after both tallied rounds of 108 overall.
Cindy Werderman was seven strokes back placing third in the flight after carding a 115 (57-58).
Jennifer Pratt made her way through the Fawn Creek course with a solid round of 98 (51-47) to win the third flight championship by six strokes over Cali Beals, who fired a 104 (54-50) to secure the runner-up spot in the flight. Chris Carrier came through with the third-place score in the third flight adding a 107 (56-51).
Winning the fourth flight at the Fawn Creek women’s club tournament was Marilyn Streeper after her card of 116 (59-57) topped the fourth flight field by eight strokes. Sandy Schwab was runner-up in the flight with a 124 (69-55) score while Ruth Harrison rounded out the top-3 in the class with a score of 127 (71-56). |

Vaughn wins third straight Fawn Creek men’s club golf championship

ANAMOSA — It was a race to the finish for the Anamosa Fawn Creek men’s club tournament championship Sunday, August 26, with two golfers separating themselves from the pack at the two-day meet that began Saturday, August 25.
Steve Vaughn and Darin Sander bested the rest of the Fawn Creek Country Club field by an impressive six shots and through 36 holes of play, ended tied with identical scores of 142 each.
After a one-hole playoff, played on Fawn Creek’s par-3 number nine hole, Vaughn walked off the green with his third straight club tournament championship.
Vaughn opened his tournament Saturday with a round of 71 and trailed Sander by two shots after he fired a three-under-par round of 69 through the first 18 holes of play.
Vaughn continued his consistent pace on Sunday as well shooting another 71 (35-36) to catch, then top Sander, who fired a 73 (36-37) on the final day.
Mitch Martensen (75-73) and Doug Brock (76-72) tied for third in the championship flight after each tallied two-day totals of 148.
Rich DeLong was fifth overall firing the low Sunday round with a two-under-par 70 (35-35) added to his card of 79 on Saturday for a 149 total.
Shane Parmenter was sixth after his 150 (73-77) while Dan Messerli claimed seven overall making his way through the Fawn Creek course with a two-day card of 152 (74-78).
Dennis Frasher finished eighth in the championship flight adding a 153 (76-77) while Chuck Shada (76-78) and Dennis LaBarge (76-78) tied for ninth with scores of 154 each rounding out the top-10 overall golfers at the tournament.
Taking top honors in the presidential flight was Galen Brendes who topped the field by two shots after carding a 162 (83-79) score at the 36-hole tournament. Jeff Fortune was presidential flight runner-up shooting a 164 (83-81) while Darren Wunder (89-77), Mike Doser (86-80), Gary Weers (85-81) and Jerry Frasher (84-82) log-jammed with scores of 166 as all tied for third in the flight for their efforts.
Dan Lubben topped the field in the first flight taking the title by two shots over Randy Dirks firing a 75 (36-39) while Dirks carded a 77 (42-35) to take runner-up honors.
Duane Mosser (43-37), Jeff Politte (41-39) and Phil Eilers (40-40) all tied for third in the flight with identical rounds of 80.
Charly Comried bested the field in the second flight after his card of 79 (39-40) topped runner-up Jeff Tjaden (46-39) by six shots after he scored an 85.
Gary Schwab was third in the flight with an 86 (47-39) while Kent Beals came through with a fourth-place score of 87 (42-45). Rounding out the second flight top-5 scores was George O’Donnell with an 88 (47-41).
Tom Loftus also posted an impressive victory in the third flight taking the title by five shots over Wayne Lerch after tallying a round of 87 (47-40). Lerch was runner-up with a 92 (47-45) while Del Prout made his way through the Fawn Creek course Saturday with a score of 93 to take third overall in the flight.
Lou Stoll (47-50) and Jim Spaight (52-45) each came through with rounds of 97 to tie for fourth, rounding out the top-5 golfers in the final flight at the Anamosa Fawn Creek men’s club tournament championship. |
